Soma - Στη χώρα του φωτός [Vinyl]

Soma, the new Athenian 4-piece feat. ex-Bazooka’s lead singer Xanthos Papanikolaou, are due to release their first album “Sti Chora Tou Fotos” ("In the Land of Light") on April 17th, 2026, via Magma rec. Raw and untamed, yet dreamy and melodic, “In the Land of Light" demonstrates Soma’s unique merging of the extrovert, groovy, revolutionary sounds of the 60s and the more esoteric standpoint of post punk and grunge. Though drawing their influences from rock’n’roll’s rich tapestry spanning all decades, Soma manage to carve their own, contemporary sound, characterized by their explosive guitar sound and their strong, almost poetic, melodicism. The unruly riffs, catchy melodies, in their native tongue, and relentless rhythm-section mark the album’s distinctive sound, one that favors intensity instead of excess!

Although newcomers, the members of the band are not new in the Athens scene. The singer, guitarist and main writer, Xanthos Papanikolaou, is a former member of Bazooka, drummer Thanos Frantzis is a member of the Athenian band Tiffany, bassist Timos Harden plays in Silhouette and guitarist Orfeas Daramaras runs the XVIV project, while the head honcho of Magma Rec is George Karanikolas, of The Last Drive fame. The recording, mixing and mastering of the album was done by Ottomo at the Fab Liquid studio. The artwork is an original conception and execution by Xanthos Papanikolaou in collaboration with graphic designer Angelos Kozioris, who co-create APAX Graphics. The manufacturing and distribution of the album has been undertaken by Sound Effect Records.
