Timeless Afternoon’s self-titled debut showcases the band’s over-30-years’ history, with their prog/jazz/blues/classical influences characterizing their unique psych-rock. Smooth and free-flowing, Timeless Afternoon transcend classic rock tropes to an alternative-rock format, making sure to draw both retro-fans and modern audiences. The album will be out on May 15th, released by the band, with distribution by Sound Effect Records, on CD, digital and vinyl, classic black and very limited transparent/orange marble vinyl!
Timeless Afternoon, a band from Patra-GREECE, finally find their way to the grooves of vinyl. Songs that have wandered for decades and played by various combinations of musicians manage to reach out to the accordant listeners. I am Nikos Petrellis, I play keyboards and perseveringly spent so much time and money for the release of the first album of the Timeless Afternoon band. With Kostas Pikoulas (vocals, sax and flute) we first met some time in the 90s in a band assembled by our first drummer Lefteris Flengas. We tried some of Kostas' compositions but the band didn't have any future at that time. Almost 30 years later, 4 of Kostas' songs along with other compositions have finally been recorded. Kostas' song "The Wind Sighs" opens the album with its haunted sound intertwined with the lyrics of the bitter memories of a terminated love affair. "Summer Rain" is also a song written by Kostas and invites us to enjoy the colors and pleasure of a light summer rain, the song "Timeless Afternoon" takes us on a trip outside time, while "Blues Away" is for sure the most powerful rock song of the album. I have also known our bassist, George Nikolopoulos for many decades. In this album we recorded two of his compositions in a more folk spirit. The song "Count the Days" with my lyrics talks about the scars left by time and "In Vain" refers to self-destructive people. The album also includes 3 songs written by me: the song "Kanonikotita" is the only one with Greek lyrics by the anarchist poet Antonis Stasinopoulos, the song "The Night is Coming Soon" and the jazz moment of the album, "Missing Worlds", both with my lyrics with existential concerns. Harris Potsios' guitar empowers all the songs of the album both old and new, either with riffs and licks or solos that guide the sensations to the highest peak. Our drummer George Amaxas is the most recent member of the band but his experience gives the right groove and feeling to all our songs. Our guest Alexandros Kakaroumpas plays strings, an integral part of the songs: Summer Rain, In Vain and Missing Worlds. We owe a lot to Lefteris who started both the old and the new band and his inimitable contribution to most compositions of the album. Don't ask about the genre of the music we play, listen to our album and you will find influences from progressive rock, psychedelia, blues, jazz and more!
